NHB DataCheck Tool

What's this all about?

The NH Natural Heritage Bureau (NHB) keeps records of known locations of rare species and natural communities.

If you're seeking a permit for a project in New Hampshire, the DataCheck Tool (DCT) can speed up the process by checking if your project location is near any of our records first.

Who can benefit by using the DCT?

Does your project require a local, state, or federal permit that requests official documents considering any rare or listed species and communities affected by the project?

If so, you can check for possible impacts on state or federally listed species or natural communities with the DCT to meet those requirements.

You must have landowner permission to query information about their property.

What can you get by using the DCT?

If you use the DCT and there are no NHB records found, you can choose to immediately get a letter to that effect at no charge.

If the DCT does find NHB species or community records near your project, you can request a staff review of your project's impact for a $25 review fee. After review, you will receive an official letter to include with your permit application.

What information do you need to provide?
  1. Some basic information about you, the landowner, and the project.
  2. A map showing the area of interest. You can draw one in the DCT, send us a GIS shapefile, or mail a hard-copy.
Prefer to submit requests by hand?

You can submit a request form to NHB by e-mail or mail. Click here for the forms you'll need to submit
