4 Reports of Various PFAS Tests Conducted by the EPA Office of Research and Development in NH

In 2017, NHDES requested assistance from the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development (EPA ORD) to conduct analyses of various samples for the potential existence of PFAS compounds. NHDES and EPA jointly developed two work plans for the sampling and analysis.

Work Plan #1 guided the collection and analyses of samples of groundwater, surface water, and soil as well as samples of raw materials used at two facilities and char that accumulates inside the air emission stacks.

Work Plan #2 guided the collection and analyses of samples from raw material formulations, pilot-scale air pollution control equipment, and air emissions from three towers during a multiday stack testing event in April and May 2018 at Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.

EPA ORD submitted four reports to NHDES in 2018 that convey results of analyses performed on the various samples. These reports represent the first in a series of data that will be presented to NHDES by EPA ORD; additional reports will be provided as EPA ORD finishes their analyses.
