In 2017, NHDES requested assistance from the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development (EPA ORD) to conduct analyses of samples from various media for the potential existence of PFAS compounds. One of these types of media included raw materials used at two NH industrial facilities which were identified as potentially containing PFAS compounds. These samples were collected by NHDES staff in August 2017. On May 29, 2019, EPA ORD issued a report to NHDES with the non-targeted analysis results of these samples. Across all 13 samples, EPA ORD detected and tentatively identified 40 different PFAS compounds although without the existence of known standards for each compound, EPA ORD could not derive a mass or concentration value. Therefore, results are considered semi-quantitative only.
This report is #5 in a series of reports that will be issued to NHDES by EPA ORD. Additional reports will be provided by EPA ORD as they finish analyses of various media. The May 29, 2019 EPA ORD report can be found at: http://www4.des.state.nh.us/OneStopPub/Air/330110016505302019TypeCR.pdf
