“Who says there isn’t a dam thing that you can do about it? Black Brook Restoration: 2009 and now- a New Hampshire success story”
Communities across the nation are facing increasingly extreme storms that bring damaging floods. These events can strain outdated infrastructure and endanger public safety. The film, “Restoring America’s Rivers: Preparing for the Future,” features three community restoration efforts. The film includes case studies on rivers in Seattle, Washington; Harmony and Grove city, Pennsylvania; and our very own Black Brook in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Maxwell Pond Dam in Manchester was removed in 2009 and seven years later, the riparian habitat along with aquatic and terrestrial wildlife are thriving. Stephen C. Landry, project lead from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, will provide commentary on the film including information from the cutting room floor, an exciting time-lapse perspective of the dam removal, documentation of channel evolution, response of fish populations, re-vegetation of the Black Brook corridor, and an update on the project.
