Rain garden layout
Removing sod and beginning to build the berm
Retain sod for berm building and topsoil for mixing into planting bed
Check that the bottom is level before adding the planting bed
The inlet structure is constructed.
The outlet structure is built and retained topsoil is mixed with amendments
To plant: dig a hole, put some water in, allow to drain, plant
Plants are placed and adjusted before planting.
The happy and hard-working homeowner planting blue flag iris at the rain garden inlet
Covering the plants with pots protects them while mulch is applied
Testing the inlet
The finished rain garden
Hard working crew!
Some erosion to the outlet is normal after the first few overflowing storms
Shortly after being built, a large rain storm filled the garden
Water can be seen flowing out of the outlet to the right
The stone inlet during a large storm
Adjustments to the inlet were needed to widen it.
Sheet flow from the yard caused some channels to form along the upper side
The garden after repairs - Ready for the next storm!
